The Severe Weather Assessment Team and the Crisis Management Teams in Tipperary have issued a further update as of 1pm today. The Council says some roads are treacherous. A further Status Orange Low Temperature/Ice warning will come into effect for Tipperary at 7pm tonight until 8am tomorrow morning. A Status Yellow Low Temperature warning also remains in place until noon on Friday the 10th of January.
There is no indication that extra resources will be moved into Tipperary to help with clearing snow and ice and no road in West Tipperary is mentioned in the council’s press release.
Council staff are continuing to treat priority routes, however, due to the low temperatures, widespread icy patches can be expected even on treated roads and extreme caution is required on certain roads. The council have listed 8 roads in the Nenagh, Thurles and Carrick on Suir Districts as needing caution but none in Tipp Cahir Cashel.
The Council says it has no shortage of salt for the roads it treats as part of the winter roads programme and for clearing snow and ice in the districts. At present the plan is for the Council Winter Service crews to continue to prioritise the clearing and treatment of the planned winter maintenance salting routes – this list of roads accounts for 1,010 km of roads in the county. The full list is available at this link here.
Local District Council crews are focussing on restoring public services, and clearing, footpaths, carparks, outside schools and businesses and in housing estates. The civic amenity site in Donohill remains closed. The Sean Treacy Swimming Pool, Tipperary Town is open until 6pm, no swimming/school lessons will take place. The Tipperary town library is open.
The Council says it’s Customer Services line remains open on 0818 06 5000 up to 4pm and the Emergency Line out of hours’ line is available in the evenings and weekends at 0818 06 5003.
