Volunteers are stepping forward to clear snow and help those isolated due to snow and ice.
Several residents in the county are calling on the council to help clear compacted snow such as in the Cordangan area near Tipperary. Footpaths in towns remain in very poor conditions in some areas.
A digger is clearing the snow from St Michael’s church yard ahead of the expected low temperatures over the coming days especially overnight. A new status orange low temperature warning comes into effect from 8pm tonight until 10am tomorrow. This warning is for counties Tipperary and Limerick, the rest of Munster, all of Connacht and 11 other counties.
Met Eireann says it will be extremely cold with widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow that could cause dangerous travelling conditions on roads and underfoot, travel disruption and delays and animal welfare issues.
Tipperary town Meals on Wheels manager, Brian English, reports that the service is unlikely to resume deliveries until next week based on weather forecasts and HSE advice. Mr English says a call he issued for help for two residents today was answered within 30 minutes.
Any person needing assistance due to power or water outages, or shortage of food or medicine is asked to contact Mr English on 062 51622 and leave a message or via mobile on 087 911 7684 or telephone a councillor or Tipp Mid-West Radio (062 52555). People are also urged to check in people living alone and those that may have a disability or illness.
