Increased Pressure On Hospitals According To INMO Trolley Watch

538 admitted patients are waiting for beds in the nation’s hospital this morning according to today’s INMO Trolley Watch. University Hospital Limerick is the most overcrowded with 96 admitted patients on trolleys, Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel reports 18 admitted patients on trolleys. The second most overcrowded is Cork University Hospital with 68 patients 

High numbers of people presenting with symptoms of respiratory illness is placing pressure on hospitals.  The HSE is asking everyone to help stop the spread of flu by staying at home if they are sick. The HSE is also reminding people to wash their hands and cover their mouth and nose for coughs and sneezes

People needing health care are advised to visit their pharmacy, GP or family doctor, GP Out of Hours, or an injury unit for non-serious issues like fractures or burns. Anyone in serious difficulty such as having trouble breathing or feeling chest pain, should go to the emergency department or call 112 or 999. Visiting restrictions and mask wearing measures are being implemented in hospitals to protect both patients and staff. All healthcare workers and people in at-risk groups are urged to get the Flu Vaccine and the Covid 19 vaccine which can be given at the same time.

Injury Units serving Tipperary are located in Cashel at the Our Lady’s Hospital Complex – Monday to Friday between 9am – 5pm Telephone (062 70400) or at the Emergency Department in the hospital in Clonmel(24 hours). Injury units are also located at Nenagh Hospital (067 42311) and at St John’s Hospital in Limerick (061 462132) both operating from 8am to 8pm every day and care is also provided at the Emergency Department in University Hospital Limerick(24 hours)
