A total of 2,901 new cars were purchased in county Tipperary last year slightly down on the 2023 total of 2,926. The data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry(SIMI) also shows that 216 Electric Vehicles(EVs) were purchased in the county – significantly down compared to the 378 purchased in 2023 in Tipperary.
Total new car registrations for 2024, finished at 121,195, a slight decrease of 1% compared to 2023. SIMI reports that sales of New Light Commercial Vehicles saw an increase of 7% to 30,786 and the sales of New Heavy Commercial Vehicles increased by 8% to 2,865 in comparison to 2023. Imported Used Cars saw 61,583 registrations in 2024, an increase of 21.4% on 2023.
Overall 17,459 new electric cars were registered in 2024, a decrease of 23.6% compared to 2023. The hatchback continues to remain Ireland’s top-selling car body type of 2024 while grey has retained the top-selling colour title for the ninth year running.
