Tipperary County Councillors will gather in Clonmel today to formally co-opt two replacements onto the council.
Two vacancies arise following the election of Michael Murphy in Clonmel and Ryan O’Meara in Nenagh to the Dáil in last month’s General Election.
The regulations in place mean that the party that nominated the departing councillor select the replacement.
Fine Gael have selected Tom Acheson in Clonmel while Fianna Fail have selected JP O’Meara in Nenagh.
The Council was newly formed in June after the Local Elections for a five-year term and has yet to finalise the memberships of two of seven Strategic Policy Committees – this is now to be concluded in January when the council membership is finalised following today’s meeting.
There is the possibility of further vacancies as at least 4 current councillors are standing in elections for the Seanad that will conclude on January 30th.
