Tom Acheson from Clonmel is to be ratified tomorrow as a Fine Gael Councillor in the Clonmel Borough District Council.
Local Party members met in Raheen House last night to select the replacement for Michael Murphy who was recently elected to the Dáil and must resign his council seat. Mr Acheson is due to retire from his current employment with MSD in Ballydine on Friday and intends to work full time as a councillor. He previously served as a councillor in Clonmel UDC and South Tipperary Council between 2009 and 2014. Tom Acheson has been deeply involved with Moyle Rovers GAA club over several years.
Tipperary County Council is holding a special meeting to co-opt Mr Acheson in Clonmel and JP O’Meara, from Toomevara, brother of newly elected TD Ryan O’Meara to Tipperary County Council. Mr O’Meara will take over the seat vacated by his brother in the Nenagh District Council.
Tipperary’s six TDs including the two first timers Ryan O’Meara Fianna Fáil and Michael Murphy Fine Gael will take part tomorrow in the first Dáil session since the General Election on November 29th with the Election of a new Ceann Comhairle likely to be the only business completed on the day.
