JP O’Meara from Toomevara is to be the new Fianna Fail councillor in the Nenagh Borrisokane Area. He replaces his brother Ryan O’Meara, a sitting councillor, who was elected to the Dáil last month.
Mr O’Meara was nominated and unanimously selected by local Fianna Fáil members to take up the seat. JP O’Meara says he is honoured to take up the role on behalf of Fianna Fail. The Toomevara native is now living in Nenagh with his partner and three children. He works with Gaelic Armour, a sportswear company based in Stereame Business Park in Nenagh where they design and manufacture innovative playing kits to athletes, sports teams, and individuals.
Fine Gael Members in Clonmel are to meet tonight to select a replacement for Michael Murphy who was also a sitting councillor when he was elected to the Dáil last month. Three people have expressed interest in the role – Tom Acheson, Joe Leahy and Brid Green.
The National Women’s Council had appealed to political parties to consider appointing women when filling vacancies on the Council as a means of improving the representation of women on decision making bodies and to create a pipeline of potential Dáil candidates.
A full meeting of Tipperary Plenary Council is scheduled for December 19th to ratify the co-option of the two replacement councillors who will now serve until the next council elections in 2029.
