Tipperary drivers will face increased fees for driving licences and vehicle tests from January 1st.
The Road Safety Authority(RSA) is giving advance notice of a number of price increases that are to come into effect in the New Year.
The fee for a Driving License will increase from €55 to €65, the Learner Permit fee will also increase by €10 from €35 to €45. The NTC Full test fee will Increase from €55 to €60 while the retest fee will increase by €12 from €28 to €40. The fee for Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test will increase by 15% in the pre-VAT cost. The price increases will be given legal effect by changes to three Statutory Instruments and will not require a Dáil vote.
The Authority funds it’s operations at present via the revenue it raises from Driving license and Vehicle Testing services. A total of €18M will be allocated to what the Authority calls “public interest activities and government priorities” in 2025. The RSA says the increases will be the first changes to costs of services since 2012, and in some cases since 2011.
The outgoing Government decided last month to abolish the RSA in the coming months and replace it with two separate bodies – one to look after Licences and vehicle testing and a second agency fully funded by the State to focus on road safety issues.
