Tipperary councillors are attending the December Meeting in Clonmel today.
The meeting will consider a number of land disposals in Thurles and Cashel and also receive the report of the Audit Committee. Councillors are to be appointed to Two Strategic Policy Committees as the full list of nominees were not available for the October Meeting. In addition, a Councillor is to be nominated to serve on the Local Community Development Committee.
There are 3 motions on the agenda for consideration – Cllr Anne Marie Ryan is calling on the Council to ask the Housing Minister to respond to the recommendations of the Housing Commission Report which calls for the delivery of 60,000 new homes annually and that 20% of the housing stock should be social and affordable.
Cllr Ryan also put forward a motion calling for the wind up of Uisce Eireann and for water and waste water services to be returned to Local Authorities.
Cllr Niall Dennehy in Clonmel is asking that no further disposals of council land in Clonmel be processed unless the local councillors are giving independent legal advice.
The councillors are also to agree a date for a special meeting to approve the co-option of two councillors to replace the two Tipperary Councillors elected to the Dáil. The selection of the two replacements is a matter for Fine Gael in the case of former Cllr Michael Murphy and Fianna Fáil as regards former Cllr Ryan O’Meara.
