The death of a homeless man in Thurles is causing shock, sadness and anger according to local Independent Councillor Jim Ryan.
The man was found deceased on Friday morning in a lane way near Ikerrin Road. It is understood that the man had lost his accommodation and had become homeless.

Garda have ruled out foul play in respect of the man’s death although the details of the Post Mortem Examination are not being released.

Cllr Ryan says his thoughts and prayers are with the man’s family.

It is understood that he was from Eastern Europe and had worked with a local construction company.

Low temperature and ice warnings were in effect last week at the time the man died. Cllr Ryan, a candidate in the General Election, says the death is a sad reflection on how homeless people are treated in Ireland and what he calls the failed housing policy of the Government.

It is understood that a priest from the nearby Pallotine College attended the scene and gave the man the last rites before he was removed to University Hospital Limerick(UHL) for a Post Mortem Examination.
