Pedestrian Crossing on Gas House Lane - Tipperary town November 2024

Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District Council is to meet today for the November meeting.

The 11 councillors will receive updates on a number of management reports including a report from the Economic, Community and Rural Development Section of Tipperary County Council.

Councillors may also get an update on plans by Tipperary County Council and Failte Ireland to secure a premises in Cashel to provide a Cashel Visitor Centre.

Talks are said to be at an advanced stage for the purchase of Kearney’s Castle Hotel to provide a hub for visitors and a home for the material in the Bolton Library Collection that is currently housed in the University Limerick.

The Council executive response to two motions submitted by Councillors Liam Browne and John O’Heney has also been released.

Cllr Browne is seeking a Columbarium wall for Cormac’s Cemetery in Cashel.

The Council executive response is that while such walls are now included in proposals for any new burial grounds retrofitting of a columbarium wall within an existing burial ground, does present some challenges, included in which are cost, design and location, anticipated demand and precedent for the provision of similar facilities at other locations within the county.

To date only one such wall has been installed, at St Patrick’s Cemetery in Clonmel in 2021.

The Council Environment and Climate Action team with responsibility for burial grounds will investigate the feasibility of providing a columbarium wall at St. Cormac’s Cemetery, Cashel and will update councillors in due course.

The Council agreed to assess the current pedestrian crossing on Gas House Lane in Tipperary town for inclusion in upgrade works in the coming year if required in response to Cllr. John O’Heney’s motion asking that upgrade works be delivered.

The Councillor wants the roadway markings to be renewed and additional signage and lighting to be added to the crossing to warn both drivers and pedestrians of impending danger.
