The county Tipperary Branch of Sinn Fein is rejecting any involvement in a recent article published online about Cllr John O’Heney. Dean McGrath says Cllr O’Heney made the claim during an election debate on Tipp Mid West Radio when questioned about the article which outlined how Mr O’Heney contacted people to ask if he could pay a membership fee on their behalf in advance of an expected candidate selection convention.
Sinn Fein TD Martin Browne, also a participant in the debate, asked Cllr O’Heney to withdraw the allegation, which he declined to do. The Chair of Tipp Sinn Fein Dean McGrath says the article on Leftinthelurch.net was not written by Tipperary Sinn Féin or by any member of Tipperary Sinn Féin.  Mr McGrath adds that the responsibility for the voice recordings which have been reported on in the blog, Left in the Lurch, lie solely with Mr O’Heney.
Mr McGrath concluded his statement saying “Honesty, transparency, and accountability are what we must strive for in politics.”  Mr O’Heney was elected on the first count in the June local elections with a total of 2,543 first preference votes and is standing as an Independent candidate in the General Election on November 29th for South Tipperary.
