Very Light Snow Falls In West Tipperary

Very light Snow is falling in West Tipperary at present(9am) –  the amount overnight is not as significant as forecast – snow only began to fall in Tipperary town after 5am.

Ground conditions are wet and sloppy and some school routes have been affected.  John Cotter coaches says their secondary school services are not operating this morning. The route E65 serving Doon is also cancelled. Cotter coaches’ services to the following primary schools are operating – Bansha, Tankardstown, Cappawhite, Donaskeigh and Doon Primary.  Services not running are those to Emly, Tipperary town, Glenbrohane, Martinstown, Donohill and Glenroe, Aherlow, Galbally and Lisvernane. The company says the afternoon service will run weather permitting. Wallace Travel services are operating as normal today.

Garda are advising drivers to use dipped headlights and fog lights and to be aware of the possibility of black ice – in sheltered or shaded parts of the road such as under trees or beside walls. Drivers are advised to slow down and to manoeuvre and break gently. The Box office at Brú Ború in Cashel will remain closed until 4pm today – the office will be open throughout tonight’s performance of the Hound of the Baskervilles by Cashel Choral and Dramatic Society  which starts at 8pm.  Marlhill Farm will open this afternoon to allow the worst of the weather to pass this morning. The Rock of Cashel will be closed today.

A Status Orange warning for snow and ice is in effect for Tipperary and counties Clare, Limerick and Galway until midday, while an Orange warning for snow and rain is in place for counties Cork and Waterford also until midday.

SEMRA has postponed it’s Long Way Round Event scheduled for Saturday November 23rd until January 25th due to the weather conditions.
