Tipperary County Council Winter Roads Maintenance Programme Now In Operation

294

Tipperary County Council Winter roads maintenance programme is now up and running – the council provides the service between mid October to the end of April each year. Tipperary County Council is also reminding the public that neither the local authority nor Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has a statutory obligation to pre-salt roads.

Due to limited resources roads in the county are grouped in three categories of priority for treatment –

  • Priority 1 routes are the M7 motorway, M8 motorway, national roads, and regional roads of strategic importance, e.g. Expressway bus routes, access to train and bus depots, hospitals, ambulance routes, and fire stations.
  • Priority 2 includes Regional Roads with high volume of traffic using the road and access to major schools and industries.
  • Priority 3 which consists of other regional roads, town streets and local county roads on a priority basis.A map of the roads included in the pre-salting or gritting response is shown below and an interactive map is available at this link here for greater detail.
