Tipperary Councillors today voted to defer the Budget meeting until December 6th.
The dramatic intervention came during a special meeting of Tipperary councillors in respect of housing when a proposal was made to postpone the Budget meeting due on November 29th to December 6th. The proposal was made by Fine Gael Cllr Marie Murphy on the basis that council staff would be busy on Friday 29th working in polling stations and counting votes on November 30th and 31st.
There are 8 councillors running in the election and many party colleagues are out canvassing for them according to Ms Murphy. Despite a counter proposal by Cllr David Dunne the decision was made to move the budget meeting to December 6th. Cllr Dunne claimed the decision was based on politics as the Council Executive is likely to propose a 6% increase in Commercial Rates as discussed in a recent Budget workshop.
Tipperary County Council must agree a budget for 2025 by December 8th.
