A Tipperary town business is to celebrate 70 years in business with a special “Customer Day” today – Friday November 8th.
Joe Whelan’s has been in business for 70 years and following the success of a celebration to mark 60 years in business they decided to hold a celebration event this year. The store offers s wide range of items from gifts, to cards, household goods, stationery supplies, paints and an extensive toy store. Customisation of cards, glasses, T-shirts or cushions is a hugely popular service at Joe Whelan’s.
Customers are invited to the story at 64/65 Main Street today between 11am and 4pm for light refreshments, giveaways, competitions and a 20% discount on all purchases. The store is managed by Ann Whelan the daughter of the late Joe Whelan who died in 2013. Ms Whelan says retail is ever changing as she mentions that appointments for Santa are now booked online and that the store also sells online via it’s website.
Ms Whelan says without great staff and customers the store could not have succeeded from the original store that opened in O’ Brien Street in 1954.
Joe Whelan’s opened at the present location in 1972 and also traded for a period at 48 Main Street (now Eyesight Opticians).
