South Tipperary Communities Successful At The 2024 Supervalu Tidy Towns Awards Ceremony

There was success for several south Tipperary communities at the 2024 Supervalu Tidy Towns Awards Ceremony held in Croke Park this morning. South Tipperary is considered as a separate entity for the competition.

Emly, Cahir, Cashel, Kilsheelan and Clonmel were particularly successful with Grangemockler winning the Endeavour Award for South Tipperary as they showed the most improvement compared to last year.

Emly emerged as the South Tipperary County Winner, and the regional winner for Tidiest village and also secured a Gold Medal.  Denis Heffernan from Emly was also recognised for his contribution to helping other entrants to the competition.

Kilsheelan won the Leave no Trace Award, and the award for small town winner in the All Ireland Pollinator Plan and a Gold medal.  Cahir was a regional winner in the Youth Award, and a Communities in Water Category and secured a bronze medal.  Bronze medals were also secured by Cashel alongside Roscrea, Nenagh and Birdhill.  Clonmel is one of the winners in the Large town category of the Pollinator award and also secured a Gold medal. Gold medal winners have achieved a mark that is within 5 points of the result achieved by the overall winner.

National winners include Ballinahow in county Westmeath, Blackrock in County Louth, Westport in Mayo and Ballincollig in Cork as the largest large urban centre.

The overall winner for 2024 with the highest score of all 4 size category winners is  Ballincollig, county Cork with 386 marks – two of the other contenders each scored 385. Emly had 384 points – pipped for the national title by 3 points!   Cappawhite was highest in South Tipp in category B on population with 348 points, Kilsheelan won category C with 383, Cahir secured highest in category D  with 366 while Tipperary town was awarded 352, in category E Cashel had 364 points, Carrick on Suir 315 and Clonmel 367.
