The Tipperary Association in Dublin has revealed it’s annual Award winners for 2024. Each year the Association, which has been in operation since 1934, presents two awards – the Person of the Year and the Hall of Fame Award to people from Tipperary that have made a major contribution to the profile of the county.
This year’s Person of the Year Award goes to Newport Athlete Sharlene Mawdsley in recognition of her success at the European, and World Relay Championships and the 2024 Olympics. This year Sharlene secured a Bronze Medal in the World Mixed 4 x400 metres relay, a Silver Medal in the European Women’s 4 x 400 metres relay, and a Gold medal in the European Mixed 4 x 400 metres relay. In the recent Olympics Sharlene had 5 appearances on the track with Ireland finishing fourth in the Olympic Final of the 4 x 400m Women’s event.
The Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Dan Quirke from Rossmore for his work in establishing and promoting the Dillon Quirke Foundation in memory of his late son Dillon, who died from SADS in 2022. The Foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of euros to provide cardiac screening for children in sports clubs over the age of 12 to help in identifying any unknown heart related risks to the child’s health.
The presentation luncheon will be held on November 23rd at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel Dublin. For enquiries regarding the luncheon please call 087 6376663.
