The government is to allocate extra funding for Volunteer Centres including the Tipperary Volunteer Centre.
The national network of 29 volunteer centres will receive an increase of 12% in core funding. Additional funding of €730,000 will also to be provided to Volunteer Centres to support further implementation of the National Volunteering Strategy. Minister of State Joe O’Brien says the Government’s investment in Volunteer Centres is some of the best value for money available to the State.
The Volunteer Centres encourage and support volunteering locally by supporting and guiding individuals who wish to give their time freely, matching skills with need. The centres operate databases that enable organisations that need volunteers, be it for once off or longer term needs, to advertise their requirements and also enable people to register their availability for volunteering. The Volunteer Centre contacts those offering their time in a bid to make match between both stakeholders benefiting from the Volunteer Centre’s service.
