The Moorehaven Centre is seeking planning permission to create a Community training facility in Thurles.  The Tipperary town headquartered organisation which provides services to adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities is seeking permission to convert the former Elvery’s Retail Store on Lower Liberty Square, Thurles into a training centre.

The building has been vacant for over 6 years since Intersport Elverys relocated to Thurles Shopping Centre.

Moorehaven’s plans include the use of both the ground and first floors for use as social areas, work stations, a canteen and separate office spaces with a lift and signage also to be installed.  There are 4 apartments on the upper floors of the building.  Submissions on the planning application can be made up to November 14th – Reference number 2460873 on the Council planning portal.  The property is owned by a person residing in county Galway.

Moorehaven currently provides day facilities in Tipperary town and Cashel for approximately 120 service users. Building works are to start in early 2025 to convert the former Courthouse and Bridewell building in Tipperary town into a similar facility and the organisation is also understood to be actively working on a plan to increase it’s respite services.
