Works Underway On Property On Tipp Town’s Main Street

Contractors have begun work on the property on Main street Tipperary town, formerly Murrays and most recently trading as Liz’s Bar.

The Council purchased the property last year as part of a new Government scheme to tackle derelict and vacant buildings in towns and villages.

The works are being undertaken by MMT Builders Fethard and supervised by  James Bourke Architects.

Scaffolding was installed yesterday and is expected to be in place for 2 weeks at most as cosmetic works to remove vegetation, restore the shopfront, repoint the chimney, and replace gutters and downpipes, if necessary, are completed.

The façade may be painted weather permitting.

The future use of the building is yet to be established but it cannot be used for housing under the terms of the scheme.

The Tipperary Revitalisation Task Force Manager Michael Begley says the ground floor will be used for commercial uses and that mixed use options are being considered for overhead and to the rear of the property.

In previous surveys an idea for a social enterprise bakery for the town was identified as a possible regeneration project.

The building is said to need extensive restoration and refurbishment inside and it remains to be seen what purpose and funding can be put in place.
