Independent Tipperary Councillor Seamus Morris is calling for greater accountability at Uisce Eireann. The comment comes after the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities expressed concern at the performance of Uisce Eireann in respect of leakage Reduction results in the context of increased expenditure. Uisce Eireann reported leakage reduction of 38 million litres per day in 2020, 41 million litres per day in 2021 but this reduced to 11 million litres per day  in 2022 and no leakage reduction figures have been provided to the Commission for 2023.

Uisce Eireann says figures will be provided to the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities in late 2024 and says the delay is due to an internal review in the calculation process. The Commission says it is very concerned that Uisce Eireann will not achieve it’s 2024 cumulative target of 161 Million litres per day  leakage reduction despite the investment approved for such work.
