McDonalds is to lodge a planning application to build a store in Thurles.

The intended site is located at Clongour adjacent to the Lidl store on the Horse and Jockey side of town. The company already has outlets in Cashel, Clonmel and Nenagh.

The site planning notice describes the facility as a single story ‘drive-thru’ restaurant and will include sales of hot food for consumption of and on the premises, with an associated coral area,  signage, and modifications to the existing vehicle access at the Thurles Relief Road.

Car parking, including accessible parking spaces; grill bays; EV charging spaces; bicycle parking; a height restrictor; customer order points, totem signage, free standing signage; banner frames and digital menu boards; an ESB substation and kiosk; landscaping, including an outdoor furniture seating area with parasols; boundary treatments; lighting, and all associated site and engineering works are to be included in the development.

The site was part of the grounds of the former Erin Foods Factory and is adjacent to the N62 and the yet to be built Thurles Inner Relief road.
