Council Rejects Two Motions Seeking Use Of Former Dairygold Site In Hollyford For Housing

Tipperary County Council yesterday rejected two motions from Councillor John O’Heney seeking the use of the former Dairygold site in Hollyford for the construction of 12 houses.

The local Conference of the Society of St Vincent De Paul wants to build on the site in Hollyford village.  The council wants to use the land to provide an improved  council depot for staff and will consider building  7 houses on part of the site in future if the demand arises.

Cllr Marian McGrath urged the council to support the Society of St Vincent de Paul  to build the  12 houses given the housing crisis saying “if built they would be occupied by those seeking a home.”

The council says it will continue to engage with councillors, St Vincent de Paul and Hollyford Community Council but says it’s staff need to have adequate facilities also.  Tipperary County Council has a good relationship with the Approved Housing Bodies (AHB’s) operating across the county and such organisations will deliver 40% of new social housing across the county under Housing For All 2022-2026. The Council  is willing to give the Society a letter of Support for the construction of 7 houses but says the demand for housing in Hollyford is low which is a factor considered by the Department in providing funding.

The Community Council is supporting the call for housing as it will help to keep local schools and services in operation.
