Tipperary County Council says so far there have been no sites sold in Boherlahan village where the council was offering 4 serviced sites for sale.
The policy of providing serviced sites was intended to support the delivery of homes and Tipperary Council was the first in the country to advertise sites.
Councillors at yesterday’s plenary meeting were told that although 13 expressions of interest were initially received none of the parties could proceed mainly on the grounds of construction costs. The sites were to be sold for €25,000 each.
The Director of Services for Housing Jonathan Cooney says the sites were intended to allow the purchasers to build a detached home on their site – building a detached rather than semi detached home adds 15% to the construction cost according to Mr Cooney who says the applicants decided that the option was not affordable within their budgets or mortgage constraints.
