Tipperary County Council is reminding landowners that hedge cutting season is underway. The council is the authority to regulate hedge cutting both from the point of view of roadside safety and the measures to protect biodiversity.
The cutting of hedges / trees can be only carried out between September 1 to March 1 under the Wildlife Act legislation – however exceptions are allowed in the case on concerns about roadside safety.
During the summer Tipperary County Council carried out a tree survey on a sample section of the N24 in the Tipperary Cashel District. The survey was especially aimed at identifying any trees that were dead due to ash die back disease and requiring removal on safety grounds. The Council says relevant land owners will be notified of any sites of interest that were identified on their lands as part of the survey.
This survey was a pilot survey funded by the Transport Infrastructure Ireland. There are currently no further plans to progress additional surveys at this time according to Tipperary County Council Roads Section.
