The death has taken place of Mary Swords. Ms Swords was a former Independent Councillor and Mayor of Tipperary town serving in the Tipperary Urban District Council that was dissolved in 2014. Ms Swords died in Tipp University Hospital on September 5th aged 77.
Tributes have been paid from across the community for the hugely popular woman who was involved in a range of organisations most recently as Chairperson of the Active Retired Association. Ms Swords was also involved as a presenter with Tipp Mid West Radio, the Tipperary Peace Convention, the Musical society and with the Youth Tops of the Town Competition.
Ms Swords nee O’Dwyer lived in London for a period but returned to live in Tipperary town with her late husband John, the couple were married for 52 years when John died in 2017. Ms Sword’s funeral will take place tomorrow – Reposing at Whelan’s Funeral Home, Tipperary Town between 5:30pm to 7pm. Mass for Mary will take place in St. Michael’s Church, Tipperary Town on Wednesday 11th of September at 12 noon and burial afterwards in St. Michael’s Cemetery Tipperary Town.
Ms Swords is survived by her children Michelle, Sean and Jackie, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, Sisters, sons-in-law Stephen and Pat, daughter-in-law Caroline, nephews, nieces, extended family and her best friend Ann.
