Uisce Éireann is confirming that major works in Cahir to protect water quality in the River Suir have been completed. The project involved a €3 million upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant in the heritage town.
The project has significantly modernised and improved the performance and capacity of the plant and will also accommodate further growth and development in the area.
It will also improve the quality of treated wastewater discharged into the River Suir and ensure compliance with wastewater regulations.
The project was carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Murphy Process Engineering.
The work involved expanding the capacity of the plant to handle more wastewater; additional storm water storage; construction of a new settling tank, and ancillary works.
The company says the €3m investment brings to €134M the total investment in the county over the last decade.
