The political editor of the Irish Times, Pat Leahy, is to launch a local publication tonight. The Commemoration Committee of the 3rd Tipperary Old IRA has produced a book that records the location and image of all of the monuments it has erected since 1921. The book, titled “Memories Etched in Stone” also lists the Tipperary volunteers who died in the cause of Irish Freedom and pays tribute to the work of Cumann Na mBan.
The book also includes some never before seen photographs from private collections and photographs of the headstones across the county of many unsung heroes in Ireland’s bid for Independence. The front cover features three volunteers Gerry Frewen, Michael Sheahan and Tom Sadlier while the rear cover features the funeral of Vice Brigadier Seán Treacy in Kilfeacle in October 1920.
The book which is in A4 size and runs to almost 160 pages will be on sale tonight. The launch will take place in the Excel Centre, Tipperary town at 7.30pm and all are welcome to attend.
