The Department of Public Health in the HSE has been notified of a confirmed case of measles in the Tipperary area. The person is known to have travelled on JJ Kavanagh bus number 717 from Dublin Airport to Clonmel departing at 4pm on Saturday the 17th of August 2024.
The HSE is advising that any passenger on this bus journey who is a pregnant woman, immunocompromised, or under the age of 12-months-old should immediately contact their GP or hospital clinician for advice. The HSE advises that immediate treatment may be beneficial to protect the health of anyone exposed to the infection.
All passengers that may have been on the Kavanagh bus from Dublin Airport to Clonmel which left at 4pm on Saturday last are asked to be aware of signs and symptoms of measles for the next 2-3 weeks – these include –
• Cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing and a cough.
• Sore red eyes.
• A temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or above.
• Rash, which usually appears on the head and neck first and spreads to the rest of the body.
Any person with these symptoms is advised to stay at home in a separate room, and seek healthcare advice. People possibly infected with measles are asked to phone ahead before attending any healthcare setting to let them know that you have these symptoms and may have been exposed to measles.
Any person that previously had two MMR vaccinations or measles in the past is well protected against measles infection according to the HSE.
A total of 85 confirmed cases of measles has been recorded by the HSE nationwide so far this year with 20 other cases under investigation.
