Mystery Of Disappearing Seating In Tipp Town Continues

2955

The mystery of the disappearing seating continues in Tipperary town.

It is understood that neither the Garda nor the Council were responsible for the overnight disappearance of 3 benches and one picnic table from a location in the town centre.

There had been some speculation that the seating was removed by Garda in response to an assault at the location on Friday August 16th.  Garda did not remove the seating and Tipperary council say “the seating at Kickham Place was removed without the permission of the Council and the matter is currently being investigated.”

The pedestrian space was created some years ago when the traffic on the street was reduced to a one-way flow to help reduce congestion in the town.  The space, adjacent to the Monument dedicated to Charles J. Kickham was also meant to be a part of a trail through the town linking the Excel Centre, the Market Yard, Kickham Place and the River Arra walkway. This has been completed in phases with the final segment, the riverside Walk opening in December 2022.
