8,000 residents supplied by the Newport Public Water Supply are under a boil water notice.
The decision follows consultation with the Health Service Executive and Uisce Eireann after elevated levels of turbidity in the raw water supply impacted the treatment process at the water treatment plant.
All residents affected by this notice must boil their water before drinking with immediate effect.
Uisce Eireann says its primary focus is to protect public health and hopes to implement solutions to lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible.
