Cause Of Widespread Internet Outage In Tipp Town Unknown

The cause of a widespread internet outage in Tipperary town and surrounding areas yesterday is yet to be established. All providers were affected including eir and Vodafone – eir says the issue is now resolved. 

The outage caused huge disruption from early afternoon until late evening. Card payment systems, telephone communication and online activity were all disrupted for local businesses.

Businesses in some cases could only conduct cash sales and other operators reported that communications they wished to share on their social media accounts could not be delivered due to the outage. Businesses in Monard and residential customers in Thomastown all reported a lack of internet access revealing the scale of the outage.

SIRO, the joint venture between ESB Networks and Vodafone, were undertaking work in the town yesterday involving the replacement of four ESB poles as part of the rollout of broadband services locally are adamant that their work was not in any way related to the outage. Service was restored to most areas by late evening.
