Two Local Schools Issue Statement After Fake Fundraiser

436

Two young people are reported to have been visiting businesses, asking people they meet out walking and visiting some housing estates in recent days claiming to be raising funds for their school.

The duo – a male and female, are understood to have told unsuspecting donors that they are collecting money for St Ailbe’s.

A social media post about the scam attracted some comments that culprits claimed the fundraising effort was in aid of St Anne’s Secondary school.

Management at both schools say they do not fundraise in this manner and condemn such behaviour as the donation is not going where the donor intended. Management in both schools are investigating the matter at present.

St Ailbe’s say they have no fundraising on going at present.

St Anne’s school has fundraised on the streets locally for Tipperary Special Olympics recently but this is under permit from local Gardaí.

Later this year the school will have some of it’s students fundraising for the HOPE Foundation which assists with underprivileged people in India. St Anne’s also says that it does not have any fundraising underway at present.

Tipperary Garda have not received any complaints about the scam to date which hopefully will not damage genuine charitable fundraising efforts.
