Public Meeting Tonight For The Campaign For Community Access To The Swimming Pool In Templemore

The campaign for community access to the Swimming Pool at the Garda College in Templemore continues with a public meeting tonight.

The Garda College is now facilitating some schools in the area to access the pool for swimming classes however the access was granted late in the academic year so there is still thought to be a backlog of local children that want to learn how to swim.  Schools now provide an aquatic element in their Curriculum. Many parents have also expressed the wish for children to acquire what may be a lifesaving skill. It is hoped that access for schools will resume promptly in September.

The meeting tonight allows for an update on the campaign to date,  ideas for the future and is expected to also see a committee established.  The requirements for community access to the pool are being clarified with Garda College Management and a community organisation dedicated to the purpose may have to be formally established.

The meeting tonight is set for 8pm in the McAuley Community Centre in Templemore.

The organisers are asking that anyone that values the opportunity to learn how to swim or to acquire lifesaving skills attend the meeting.  The event is being organised by the We Just Want To Swim Templemore Group and further details can be found on their Facebook page.
