Reassurance as to the delivery of a 60 bed Residential Care Unit in Cashel for older people was provided by Junior Minister Mary Butler today.

Ms Butler has Responsibility for Older People and committed to delivering the unit in Cashel.

Ms Butler was responding to Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath.  The HSE revealed last week that it does not consider the proposed site at St Patrick’s hospital to be suitable and is currently reviewing an alternative site in the town.

Minister Butler says due to the commercial nature of the matter the location of the new site cannot be revealed at present.

The matter has been raised by several Tipperary Public Representatives as the project had been due to go to planning in 2019.

The HSE says the original site at St. Patrick’s hospital  complex is not adequate to provide car parking and access to the building.

A planning application to demolish the gate lodge at St Patrick’s  is currently before  Tipperary County Council.

Former Cashel UDC councillor Tom Wood says permission for this demolition should not be granted unless the 60 bed unit is going on the St Patrick’s site.  Today is the final day for submissions on the current planning application
