New Survey Finds Tipp People Love Their Chocolate

A new survey shows that the people of the Premier County enjoy their chocolate.

The study by Tony’s Chocolonely conducted in partnership with Bounce Insights involved examining Google searches for chocolate in each county.

Nationally, the people of the capital (Dublin 47.8%) have more of a craving for chocolate followed by Cork (9.7%) and Galway (4.2%), while Tipperary (2.3%) was joint 7th of their love of chocolate with 3 other counties.

Our neighbours Limerick enjoy searching for chocolate a bit more at 2.8%.

The research also revealed that only 29% of Irish people have heard about modern slavery on cocoa plantations – while just 33% had heard about child labour and other forms of exploitation occurring on cocoa farms.

The vast majority of the population believe that all food companies should be tackling illegal labour in their supply chains, that farmers should be paid the living wage and that its important food they buy is from traceable and transparent supply chains.

Nicola Matthews is UKI Head of Marketing at Tony’s Chocolonely says that “Our consumer research in Ireland shows that Irish shoppers want to know where their food comes from, and whether it is ethically produced and responsibly sourced – but the findings highlighted a clear gap in knowledge about some of the bitter truths of chocolate production.

Ms Matthews says “With chocolate lovers gearing up to celebrate with friends and family this Easter, we wanted to remind everyone to opt for sustainable and ethical chocolate without compromising on flavour or fun,”.
