Blood Donation Clinic Opens In Thurles Today

307

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is appealing to people in Tipperary to support a donation clinic at the Dome in Thurles today.

The clinic will run from 4.45pm until 8pm.

The demand from hospitals for blood is expected to remain at an all-time high over the Easter holidays.  Approximately 1000 people in Ireland get blood transfusions every week.  Transfusions can happen for a variety of reasons such as cancer treatment, surgery, car accidents, and childbirth complications.

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service needs to collect 3,000 units of blood every week to maintain the national blood supply and points out that on average 1 in every 4 people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their life.

Those willing to make a donation are asked to call 1800 222 111 to schedule an appointment or to visit giveblood.ie to check their eligibility.
