McGrath Calls For Guaranteed & Affordable Energy Prices

The Rural Independents TD grouping is accusing the government of complacency in the face of the energy crisis.

Leader Mattie McGrath wants the government to do more to ensure guaranteed and affordable energy and highlighted measures taken by several European countries.

Deputy McGrath is concerned that the absence of short, medium, or long-term structural policies to address the forecasted rise in electricity demand in the future will result in an over-reliance on imported energy.

This he says will lead to higher energy costs for both business and residential customers.

The lack of any capacity to store gas is a major deficiency according to the Tipperary TD.

The Group wants the government to ensure  an indigenous energy mix, including Irish oil and gas production and LNG storage infrastructure and a faster delivery of energy from renewable sources.
