Engineers with Tipperary County Council have ordered an audit of the Traffic Lights in Tipperary Town.

In response to a query from Tipp Mid West Radio about traffic management in the town the council says the lights were assessed by a traffic light specialist in recent years and adjusted to the optimum settings for the road conditions.

Now a similar assessment/audit has been ordered and will take place in the coming weeks to review operations.

Council Engineer James Swords says any alterations recommended during this audit will be implemented.

The town suffers from severe congestion due to a high and persistent volume of traffic passing through the town on the N24.

It is hoped that a Tipperary Town ByPass planned as part of the N24 Cahir to Oola Project will help to reduce the congestion however the By Pass is not expected to be completed for approximately 7-9 years.
