TUH in Clonmel reports 20 patients receiving care on a trolley today.

Nationally there are 33 children under age 16 waiting on a bed today.

In University Hospital Limerick there are 78 patients experiencing delayed admission.

32 of the patients are on trolleys in the Emergency Department while a further 46 admitted patients in UHL are accommodated by adding their trolley to some ward of the hospital. The HSE has confirmed that a protocol will be put in place in February that will allow ambulances to take clinically suitable patients to the Medical Assessment Unit in Nenagh to alleviate pressure on UHL.

The protocol is also to be extended to St John’s Hospital as soon as possible.

Nationally 490 admitted patients are waiting for beds today according to the INMO Trolley Watch Report an increase of 41 on yesterday.

383 patients are waiting in the emergency department, while 107 are in wards elsewhere in the relevant hospital.

Management at Tipperary University Hospital Clonmel is asking members of the public to only attend in the case of a genuine emergency, and advising that, where possible, GP /Caredoc out of hours service be consulted in the first instance.

Those needing care are asked to think about all of their care and treatment options and keep the Emergency Department services for the patients who need them most.

However, if members of the public are seriously injured or ill or are worried that their life is at risk the Emergency Department will assess and treat such patients as a priority.

Staff and management are working to prioritise the discharge of patients as soon as possible where appropriate to help alleviate the situation. Earlier today it was reported that there were 20 patients receiving care on a trolley at TUH.

Management at TippUH apologises for any inconvenience caused and say that patients who are presenting with non – urgent conditions are experiencing lengthy waiting times to be seen.
