Garda in Cahir report that a Search and Rescue operation ended with a good outcome late last night.

A missing female hiker was found safe and well.

The woman contacted family members by telephone at approximately 4pm and advised them that she was lost.

The search focused on the Scarragh woods.

Teams from the South Eastern Mountain Rescue, family and friends, SARDA,  An Garda Siochana, the Coast Guard helicopter and local people all assisted.

The woman was found by local people that had offered their assistance.

Earlier yesterday SEMRA were tasked to assist with a search on  Slievenamon for a walker who had gotten disorientated in thick fog shortly after 8.30am.

The walker, who was experienced and well kitted out, was located by SEMRA at 9:40am and transferred to a team vehicle.

All members were down off the hill by 10am.  SEMRA says the initial response was delayed when access to the trailhead/forest track was blocked by a parked car and urges anyone using walking trails  to park carefully and to never block the access roadways.
