Tipperary County Council condemns the recent vandalism on the River Arra Walkway in Tipperary town. Ringbuoys installed in the Riverside park were damaged and some were thrown into the river or stolen. A total of eight ringbuoys were installed and the ropes have been removed from all of the remaining ring/lifebuoys. The lifesaving equipment has now been restored.

The Council says it was disappointed to learn about the vandalism which it says is putting lives at risk. The ringbuoys and holders cost approximately €250 each – the council says a missing ring buoy could amount to a lost life in a rescue situation.

The Walkway is not yet fully completed but was opened on December 22nd for use over the holiday period – a children’s playground and boardwalk over the pond are yet to be installed.

The public are asked to report anyone damaging or stealing ring buoys by contacting Tipperary County Council on 0818 06 5000 or can report a missing ring buoy on the following website www.ringbuoys.ie .
