8 Lifebuoys Installed On River Arra Walkway Vandalised

657

Eight lifebuoys installed on the river Arra Walkway in Tipperary town have been vandalised since the park opened on December 23rd.

One of the life buoys is missing and the ropes have been taken from the other seven lifebuoys.

The ropes are typically 15 – 30 metres in length and are essential to be able to use the lifebuoys in a rescue situation.

The ropes have a distinctive bright yellow colour with pink flecks.

The new walkway is approximately 900m in length along the bank of the river Arra and also includes a pond – one of the lifebuoys is situated at the pond the remainder are along the river bank.  Some parts of the walk have fencing to restrict access to the river – other areas are exposed.

The missing lifebuoy was situated in an area with signage indicating that the water in the river is deep.

The matter has been reported to the Irish Water Safety Association and Tipperary town Garda.
