Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill is offering continuing support to the We Just Want To Swim Group in Templemore following the failure of management at the Garda college to re-open the swimming pool to the community as promised by the end of November.

Minister Patrick O’Donovan with responsibility for the OPW says no applications for licences to use the pool had been sent to the OPW from the Garda College for consideration and approval.

Deputy Cahill also confirmed that certain school groups that are yet to even receive an acknowledgement from the Garda College in relation to their applications, and none have been approved yet.

The Thurles based TD says he will keep in contact with both the relevant Ministers and the WJWTS campaign to support what he calls their reasonable request for access to be restored for community swimming classes.

The Office of Public works owns the facility on behalf of the State and responsibility for An Garda Siochana comes under the remit of Department of Justice – Heather Humphreys is now covering this Department as Helen McEntee TD is on maternity leave.
