Tipperary ETB Seeking Long-term Solutions For Thurles Secondary School

290

Tipperary ETB is to meet with Department of Education Officials later this month to seek an acceptable long-term solution to provide a school suitable for the needs of Coláiste Mhuire in Thurles.

The school offers second level education and Post Leaving Certificate programmes. A future enrolment target is to be identified which addresses increasing demand for places as well as the infrastructural deficiencies in the school at present.

The school was constructed in 1981.

The Board believes that the existing large site at Castlemeadows may not meet the long term needs of the school and is also in favour of  a new building being co – located on a teacher training campus.

It is understood that the MIC Campus in Thurles is willing to make a site available for the school.

At present the school shares the Dome facility with neighbours Semple Stadium.
