An Independent TD says there’s a real danger of business closures if the government’s energy support scheme isn’t paid out urgently.

Michael Lowry says local retailers are struggling to meet rising costs, with many simply holding on in the hope of recouping some losses during the Christmas shopping season.

Deputy Lowry says particularly those businesses that rely heavily on refrigeration to keep products fresh are seeing 80% hikes in costs.

The Thurles based TD wants the government to set up the Temporary Business

Energy Support Scheme immediately without delay.
