Issue Of Local Access To Garda Training College Raised In Dail

The issue of local access to the swimming pool at Templemore Garda Training College was raised in the Dáil today by Tipperary TD Michael Lowry.

The TD cited that limited access has been available to local groups since 1965.

The pool has not reopened to public use since the pandemic.

The facility is operated by the Garda College and owned by the OPW.

Deputy Lowry says the OPW are in favour of public use but,  can only issue a licence for use by local community groups on foot of a request from the Garda Commissioner.

Deputy Lowry called on the Government to raise the matter with the Commissioner.

Responding for the Government Minister Eamon Ryan says he would be very surprised if the Garda authorities did not respect the conditions that the OPW attach to the facility and said a satisfactory resolution should be arrived at “very very quickly.”
