Local Resident To Present At Oireachtas Public Petition Committee

A local resident is to present at today’s meeting of the Oireachtas Public Petitions Committee.

The meeting will consider the petition submitted by Terence Coskeran about the issue of housing estates being taken in charge by local authorities.

The ‘Taking in Charge’ process occurs when a Local Authority takes in charge all of the infrastructure of an estate that has been constructed by a private individual or company and completed in accordance with the approved plans.

Mr Coskeran will make his presentation at 1.30pm and is raising some issues he has had regarding an estate he developed in Kilross.

Despite complying with the planning permission granted, the local council say they cannot take the estate in charge due to an agreement made between Irish Water and the Department of Housing after the planning permission was granted.

As the developer Mr Coskeran is still held responsible for the estate maintenance although he received confirmation from Tipperary County Council in 2017 that the taking in charge application was being processed.

The session can be viewed on the Oireachtas website here.
