Tipp Senator Committed To Maintaining 9% Hospitality VAT

A Tipperary Senator says he’s committed to fighting to maintain the 9% hospitality and tourism VAT rate.

Garret Aherne’s comment comes following concern raised by both Cashel and Tipp Town Chamber of Commerce about the potential hike in the VAT rate.

Last week the Finance Minister announced as part of Budget 2023 that the special rate introduced to help businesses following the lifting of covid19 restrictions would finish at the end of February next year.

The Fine Gael Senator says there’s a two tier system where the hospitality sector in Dublin is very busy and prices are high but that’s is not the cause for businesses in Tipperary.

Mr Aherne acknowledges that this winter will be the most challenging ever for local businesses and believes the government will be able bring clarity on the rate in the new year.
